Dr. Nicholas Ward PsyD.

Dr. Ward, is a California-licensed psychologist and proud veteran of both the U.S. Army and law enforcement. He brings a distinctive perspective to his clinical work, shaped by more than two decades of combined experience in public safety, military, and mental health settings.

As a father of three sons, two of whom currently serve in the U.S. Army, Dr. Ward understands the challenges of balancing family, duty, and personal well-being. His professional and personal experiences have inspired a deep commitment to helping individuals and families build resilience through compassion, evidence-based care, and clear, honest communication.

Dr. Ward earned his Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from the College of Psychology at John F. Kennedy University, an APA-accredited program. He completed an APA-accredited internship at Aurora Behavioral Healthcare in San Diego, where he worked exclusively with active-duty military service members in an inpatient treatment setting. Over the course of his career, he has provided care in hospitals, schools, forensic programs, and neurobehavioral units. At Catalight Care Services in Walnut Creek, California, Dr. Ward specialized in conducting comprehensive developmental and autism assessments for children.

His clinical approach integrates structured assessment with practical, real-world insight, helping clients and families better understand emotional, cognitive, and behavioral functioning. Whether supporting a child with developmental differences, an adult navigating stress or trauma, or a first responder facing burnout, Dr. Ward’s practice is grounded in empathy, integrity, and service.

Personal Background and Family

Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Ward is a dedicated husband and father of three sons. He and his wife have built a loving blended family, grounded in shared values of service, integrity, and resilience. Two of their sons currently serve in the U.S. Army, continuing the family’s proud tradition of military service.

Dr. Ward has trained extensively in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Mixed Martial Arts, often alongside his sons as they grew up. Through these disciplines, he recognizes how martial arts promote emotional regulation, focus, and confidence while fostering respect and social connection. These experiences have strengthened his appreciation for perseverance, discipline, and the mind–body connection, principles that also inform his clinical approach.

Before becoming a psychologist, Dr. Ward served twelve years in the U.S. Army as a Forward Observer and more than twelve years as a sworn police officer, working in patrol, corrections, and the courts. His professional journey reflects a lifelong respect for those who serve and protect others.

In his personal time, Dr. Ward enjoys spending time with his family, practicing mixed martial arts, and exploring his passion for aviation.
